A crime has occurred. Fear and suspicion grip the community. Enter a low-profile hero to follow the clues and solve the case. The detective novel is one of the most famous literary genres of all time. Not even kids can resist a good whodunit!
The modern detective novel was born in the shadows of the Industrial Revolution and the birth of the “big city.” Suddenly, people found themselves living and working in crowded spaces amongst strangers. It was onto this gritty urban landscape that Sherlock Holmes first emerged.
The first teen detectives, the Hardy Boys, debuted in 1927, followed by Nancy Drew in 1930. However, detective work was not just for professionals anymore. Kid detectives Encyclopedia Brown and Harriet the Spy followed a generation later.
Meet Pinky Bloom, a fourth-grader and self-proclaimed greatest kid detective in Brooklyn. Her sidekicks include her best friend Lucy, her cat, and her annoying little brother Avi. Pinky consistently stumbles upon a worthy discovery with a uniquely Jewish-Brooklyn twist with an active imagination and plenty of chutzpah.
Read about her adventures in Pinky Bloom and the Case of the Missing Kiddush Cup and Pinky Bloom and the Case of the Magical Menorah. And watch for Pinky Bloom and the Case of the Silent Shofar, coming in Fall 2022!
Try to solve the mystery before Pinky and her gang, if you can!
