Guidelines for Writers and Illustrators
Kar-Ben publishes 14-16 new titles each year. All are books on Jewish themes for children and families. We are happy to review unsolicited manuscripts and artistsí samples. These are accepted at all times of the year. All manuscripts should be submitted electronically to: email@example.com
. Please allow 6-8 weeks for a reply.
We exclusively publish books for children. We consider fiction and non-fiction for preschool through approximately 6th grade, including holiday books, life-cycle stories, Bible tales, folktales, board books, and activity books. In particular, we are looking for stories that reflect the ethnic and cultural diversity of today's Jewish family. Please take a moment to explore our website to see if your work is a good fit for Kar-Ben.
We DO NOT accept manuscripts for books aimed at young adults or adults. We DO NOT publish games, textbooks, or books in Hebrew. Your story should be concise, have interesting, believable characters, and action that holds the readersí attention. Good prose is far better than tortured verse.
Manuscripts must be typed and double-spaced. Donít forget to check spelling, grammar, facts, and typos. Art is contracted for separately. It is not necessary or desirable to include art with your text. We do not critique unsolicited manuscripts.
Please submit samples that show skill in childrenís book illustration. Website addresses, emailed samples, and/or printed samples are accepted. Please DO NOT send original art.
We offer contracts based on flat fee and/or royalty.
Thank you for your interest in Kar-Ben Publishing!
